The Curtiss Pusher

This is finally done. This is the Curtiss Pusher, a biplane fitted with a wheeled tricycle undercarriage. It was primarily constructed of spruce. The propeller is located behind the pilot "pushing" the plane forward.

On September 13, 1911 Jimmie Ward took off from Governors Island, NY in this plane to pursue the "Hearst Prize." Hearst offered $50,000 to the first aviator to complete a transcontinental flight in less than 30 days and no later than October 11, 1911. Sadly, Jimmie Ward had to withdraw nine days into the race after his plane finally crashed following numerous mechanical issues. He only made it to Addison, NY.

Thing a day, day seventeen

I'm behind in my postings but not in my creating! I seem to get lazy to post by midweek, not that I am on the computer any less.

For the seventeenth day of thing a day, I started an embroidery project. This is going to be a Kokeshi doll and the pattern is from Melly and Me. I decided to put some batting on the back as I am embroidering to give it a bit of a quilted look. I'm not sure if it is really taking tho as it doesn't really look quilted. And I'm not sure why I wanted a quilted look. Anyhow I think all this creating and constantly being on the computer is putting a strain on my right arm as I might have pulled a muscle. But I shall go on! (cue dramatic music!)

Is It A Bird, Plane, or Superman

It may be a little difficult to make out, but today's thing is a Curtiss biplane about to be embroidered unto a bag. I used iron on ink on some tearaway fabric to get the image onto the canvas.

Redwork Babushka

Today I thought I would have a go at drawing and stylising a Russian doll, then translate the drawing into Redwork embroidery
