Thing a day, day twenty eight

The last official Thing a day! What great fun it was!

The last TAD is something for my daughter. I figured it was about time I made something for her since none of the TADs were for her at all! Poor thing! She did enjoy seeing (and playing with some of) the TADs.

Earlier this month we changed her crib to a toddler bed. There was some falling out in the beginning so then we put some pillows on the floor for her. Then we discovered that she would just stay sleeping on the floor! LOL. She had a little toddler pillow so we decided to upgrade her to a regular sized pillow. I had made a bunch of pillowcases for her little pillow and knew I needed to make some for the big pillow.

Since she is a big fan of the Madagascar movies and the Penguins of Madagascar show, I found this fabric on Etsy. I didn’t realize that it is pretty hard to find! I guess because the movie is old. Anyhow, since I never made a pillowcase this size, it was actually more difficult that I thought it would be (I am not good in math, I bring disgrace to my Asian background!) And of course I don’t write anything down so I am constantly repeating the measurements. It’s my own fault! But I do think it came out pretty cute!

I put it on my daughter’s bed and she promptly said she was going to take a nap. She loves it! I’m so glad! I am glad that I made my last TAD for her!

Thing a day, day twenty seven

Today’s TAD really did take 30 minutes! I went to Lisa Pavelka’s site to order Magic Glos (which I can’t wait to try but I have to wait for a sunny day.) and somehow I wound up checking out her waterslide transfers. I ordered the Eclectic Vintage and the blank ones to make your own.

I was a little disappointed in the images in the eclectic vintage as they weren’t as exciting to me as I thought they would be. But I realized that it was a good thing because if I liked them too much, I might not want to use them (silly, I know but that’s a problem I’m working on!) So I decided to just play around and put these transfers on these magnetic clips I have in my craft area. Oh! What fun it was! I started looking around for more things to decorate and found these square little mirrors. Well, I wasn’t impressed with how that turned out so things kinda stopped after that.

I still need to spray some acrylic spray on them. I can’t wait to try the blank ones but those require more work. I have to spray acrylic spray on them after I print out my images, spray the surface I’m going to apply it on and let dry in between all that spraying! So that is a project for another day!

Lisa Pavelka’s waterslide transfers are here.

Thing a day, day twenty six

Sleepingsheeptad26

In the final stretch for Thing a day!

I got sort of lazy because of the snow. I spent the morning playing with my daughter in the snow and helping my dad with the shoveling. Then watched the movie Bolt with my daughter. So this is just finishing the amigurumi sleeping sheep I startedon day 24. I had some worries about how it was going to turn out. I like it!

The pattern is here.

Thing a day, day twenty four

Sleepinglambstarttad24

More crochet this week! I started a amigurumi, a sleeping baby sheep pattern. The body seems fine but I don’t know about the head. Hopefully it will come together once all the parts are done. I just have to do the arms, legs, ears and face!

The pattern is here

Thing a day, day twenty three

Heartearringtad23

I had a doctor’s appointment Tuesday afternoon. This was the first time going to this doctor and wasn’t sure how long he makes patients wait. Instead of bringing a book or magazine, I decided to bring my crochet. After filling out paperwork and the usual new patient stuff, I only had time to make 1 of these hearts (they are going to be earrings) before being called in! I have another doctor’s appointment on Thursday so hopefully I can finish the earrings there (although there is a big snowstorm coming!)

The pattern is here.

Thing a day, day twenty two

Once again, behind on posting my TADs. I can’t believe it’s almost over. The month sure flew by!

The twenty second TAD is actually just finishing up previous TADs. I don’t know if that counts but it’s all I have. I wanted to make sure they were done and didn’t want to procrastinate any further.

We’re due to see Sienna’s friend, Emma, soon so wanted to make sure to finish the hair clip I started for her.

And I also finished the cat pillow I was crocheting last week. I think it came out really cute and so did Sienna! I wanted to show a picture of her little hands grabbing it off the table and then her showing it off (although the photo is blurry, sorry!) I might have to make her her own cat pillow.

Thing a day, day twenty

Catpillowstarttad20

My thing a day for today is a cat pillow. The start of a cat pillow anyway. It’s a crochet pattern that I got from here. I think it will turn out cute!

Thing a day, day nineteen

My nineteenth thing a day was a spontaneous project. Well, I don’t know if I should call it spontaneous as I had in mind to do this for awhile but I finally sprung into action on the 19th.

This past summer, while “vacationing” at Sesame Place, I was lucky enough to spend some fun shopping time a super big Joann’s fabrics (we don’t have one close to us). They had these cute kits on super sale (I swear, I think it was like $1.99) I bought like 4 of them. Each kit had different elements in it for applique and embroidery for baby/toddler clothes with iron on designs and sayings. I bought 2 girl design kits and 2 boy design kits. I used one of the kits to make my daughter a cupcake shirt and I haven’t touched them since (and there are lots of designs in them, you could probably make at least 10 items from each kit.)

So I finally got a chance to use one of the boy kits for a friend that had a baby in September. I haven’t seen her since the summer and hadn’t met the baby yet but the shirt I used was for 18-24 months anyway. We had a playdate with a bunch of other kids Friday afternoon so that morning I got to work. I think it came out cute! The last photo shows my chopping sewing job around the applique. I hadn’t meant to use a zig zag stitch but I forgot to change it back to a straight stitch from using it on my TAD 18 and then I was too lazy to take it out and start over. I don’t think the baby will care anyway. LOL.

Thing a day, day eighteen

Cupcakedishtoweltad18

The eighteenth day of TAD was a really quick project (aside from the pre-washing of the fabrics.)

I used my pinking sheers to cut out some cupcake fabric to sew onto a plain light brown dishtowel. I thought it came out pretty cute although I'm pretty sure I cut enough width of the fabric to cover the dishtowel but somehow it shifted so the sides get short changed a bit. I didn't want to obsess over it because I thought it came out cute anyway.

Thing a day, day seventeen

I'm behind in my postings but not in my creating! I seem to get lazy to post by midweek, not that I am on the computer any less.

For the seventeenth day of thing a day, I started an embroidery project. This is going to be a Kokeshi doll and the pattern is from Melly and Me. I decided to put some batting on the back as I am embroidering to give it a bit of a quilted look. I'm not sure if it is really taking tho as it doesn't really look quilted. And I'm not sure why I wanted a quilted look. Anyhow I think all this creating and constantly being on the computer is putting a strain on my right arm as I might have pulled a muscle. But I shall go on! (cue dramatic music!)
