Ikyoto Day #28: Art Journal Page

Dscn0277

For my final installment I did some work on a Round Robin Journal that I've been hanging onto for a while trying to find time to give some undivided attention to.  I found the paper doll in my childhood bedroom.  I think I made it while I was a teenager, so it is good that it will get to see the world now.  If you want to see me again before next year, feel free to check out:

My Etsy Shop, Ikyoto
My Artist and Artistans Group, The NewNew (we're the ones using the tag "newnewteam")

Thank you to everyone on Thing-A-Day for being so supportive and inspirational!

Pencils

The last day of Thing-a-Day. Time to put the pencils and supplies away. (Well, not in my house where nothing ever gets put away.) Thank you to everyone who participated in the swap. And thank you to the organizers of TAD. It was a blast.

Ikyoto Day #27: Design File

My dad teased me that I should just take a picture of him and my mom as my "things" for every day since that is where all of my time is going.  Although I also made roast pork and asparagus, I decided that it was more fun to show pictures from the design idea file I started for an apartment my partner and I are exploring buying.  I'm at the wild imagination stage on one hand to help balance out the overwhelming reality part on the other side.  Here's a view from the living room into the kitchen paired with an idea for taking down that wall.

Day 27, Monster No. 7

Img_6993

Another somewhat fuzzy, somewhat surprised or nervous-looking monster, this time with limbs AND horns! Now, if only I could achieve that "scary" look...

Swirls

This bead was left over from this project. And honestly, I'd be much more inclined to wear this simple pendant. Swirls just make me happy.

Day 26: Fish Monster

Everyone, out of the water! Ahhhhh! Scary-ish fish monster made from the scarf my cousin Judy gave my Dad for Christmas a couple of years ago, and that my Mom subsequently gave me because he didn't really care for it. Very hard to sew for all the fraying, but a pattern I couldn't resist. I tried to lessen the fraying by using stitch-witchery to close most of it, followed by a blanket stitch. The stitch-witchery worked pretty well but the blanket stitch wasn't enough for the parts I didn't use it on. So, long story short, it took a lot of stitching and re-stitching to get this guy swimming. I think I'll stick with felt!

Ikyoto Day #25: Repair Dog Bed

4391426088_508745c438

Since I'm continuing to help out the parents, the thing today is another household project for them.  Their sweet dog, Lala, loves her dog bed, but in the way where she alternately cuddles up in it and rips it to pieces.  I repaired all of the current tears where the stuffing was coming out to try to wrangle a longer life from it. I couldn't resist including her in the picture since it is automatically more photogenic that way.

The Curtiss Pusher

This is finally done. This is the Curtiss Pusher, a biplane fitted with a wheeled tricycle undercarriage. It was primarily constructed of spruce. The propeller is located behind the pilot "pushing" the plane forward.

On September 13, 1911 Jimmie Ward took off from Governors Island, NY in this plane to pursue the "Hearst Prize." Hearst offered $50,000 to the first aviator to complete a transcontinental flight in less than 30 days and no later than October 11, 1911. Sadly, Jimmie Ward had to withdraw nine days into the race after his plane finally crashed following numerous mechanical issues. He only made it to Addison, NY.

Ikyoto Day #24: Waiting Room "Things"

Dscn0265

Since my father was having surgery today, I had all day to kill at the hospital. None of the projects I have around the house were really suitable for waiting rooms, so I just wrote letters, and started some pages in a Round Robin Art Journal at their house before I totally pooped out. The card is by a person from my hometown, Corinna Luyken, that I bought at the local artisan's market.
