Messy Monday #2

Pdrm0054

Mostly today I made a mess - I'm cleaning out my craft room, and I had my husband help me move the last of the pile of clothes to the living room where I can sort them more effectively. But in keeping with the messy theme, I started on what should end up as a decorative trash can for the dining room, where I always end up sorting mail. I've started by piecing together cardboard until it's of a size that I can make a decent sized tube - I'm aiming for somewhere in the vicinity of 24"x48".

Symbolic Sunday

Tad003

Steampunk Ouroboros: The ouroboros is a snake or dragon that is shown as swallowing its own tail. The traditional symbology holds that this is a symbol of something continually re-creating itself; I would like to modernize this view to also consider that it is always consuming itself as well as creating itself, and thus is a good symbol for web advertising, since so much of the advertising on the web is to get you to visit a site that makes its money from advertising.

While looking for a good dragon to color yesterday, I noticed an ouroboros; I decided to do something with that today. The design had quite a bit of ornamentation that I decided to do away with; then I decided to replace the fancy circles the dragon was intertwined with gears to make a steampunk ouroboros!

Something or other Saturday

This is what happens when I get frustrated - what I wanted to work on had problems that I can't fix with what I have on hand.  So, I broke out the clip-art and colored:

Thing-a-day: happy dragon

I like how it looks like he has a gold earring.

And I made my husband buy me a rose AND be my photographer's assistant:

Thread Thursday

_dsc2307

Maybe it should be Textile Thursday, but that wouldn't be alliterative. For my "thready" craft, I present my very first needle-felting craft. As a rose, I think it really needs a couple more petals, but I'm tired of going *poke*poke*poke* !

Wordy Wednesday

Tad001

Once again, I've done two things for TAD, taking on the challenge of words today. Thing 1 is the inaugural post in a blog I've been thinking about starting for a couple of weeks - "Living Cheap in Fort Worth". The blog can be found here: http://fortworthcheap.blogspot.com/ (it is ad-enabled there, fyi).

As it happened, I got a piece of mail today from Charles Schwab Co. The security pattern on the inside of the envelope is a distinctive pattern of word balloons - serendipity! My handwriting is not so good, so I knew I could only get single words in any of the balloons, and only two-letter words at that. I decided to fill the balloons with words from the list of official two-letter Scrabble(tm) words, which may help me remember these words - they are very important strategically in Scrabble(tm). Placement was fairly random, and I switched pens for every word to get a bit of color going.

Messy Monday

For this year's TAD, I'm doing a different theme for each day of the week:

Symbol Sunday
Messy Monday
Tasty Tuesday
Wordy Wednesday
Thread Thursday
Photography Phriday
Something or other Saturday.

With the inaugural messy Monday, I wanted to execute an idea I've had for a while; dye yarn in sections of black and auburn red to get a calico cat effect. Unfortunately, the red didn't take the way I wanted it to - maybe it's that hair dye doesn't work well with cotton or maybe it's because the dye was a year old. It was certainly a mess.

Also, because I'm unemployed, surely I can do two things a day. My sweetie and I went to the stock show in Fort Worth today armed with cameras. I applied a quickie tilt-shift to one of the photos for my second TAD
